BeagleBone

Getting started with the BeagleBone Black and the PRU via JTAG I want to program the Programmable Real-Time Unit (PRU) [r22] available on the Texas Instruments Sitara™ AM335x processors via a JTAG debug connection. I use a "bare metal" BeagleBone Black (BBB) without a bootloader and therefore without running Linux.

JTAG capabilities would especially be a benefit for those members of the community using the beaglebone in non-trivial hardware projects. If these capabilities are realized, rather than needing a separate JTAG apparatus/peripheral, the beaglebone could be considered a tool equally appropriate for this task - having this capability provides much added value at no cost.

JTAG and remote GDB on the Beaglebone Black I have been using OpenOCD along with GDB on some ARM Cortex-M3 projects and started wondering what could be arranged along these lines with the BBB. This is just "recon" information, I have not actually followed through with any of this.

Thankfully the BeagleBone Black PCB does nothing to hide its JTAG port and access can be obtained simply by soldering on a compact TI (cTI) 20-pin male header onto the JTAG breakout pins. On the bottom of the BBB you will find P2, this is the JTAG breakout port. Solder the keyed 20 pin header to P2.

While there is a simulator, my hardware has other devices that need to be in place so now I'm looking for a JTAG that can help optimise code speed for a section of code that takes 20ms. the TI FAE suggested asking on the forum. There's the XDS 560 but I don't think it execution speed profiles.
